Volvo buses were introduced by the BMTC as a comfortable mode of transport. There were no other luxury buses, but now there’s competition, the marcopolo bus(made by TATA). I think they are cheaper than the volvo buses, thats why I see a lot more marcopolo’s than volvo’s. But I dislike them, they are very noisy and emit a lot of heat, especially if you are in a 2 wheeler behind them in a traffic stop.

Volvo’s are so quiet, you can hardly hear them until they pass by. They also look more refined and of a better quality than the other one. They look good on the road. If bangalore wants to be an international city, then it should start buying up volvo’s. Thats the international standard.

  1. Completely agree with you…the Marcopolos have the engine/motor visible at the rear and the heat is definitely felt even from a distance…they are also not good-looking when compared to the Volvos. I heard than a Volvo costs 70 Lakhs whereas a Marcopolo with AC costs 55 Lakhs. I am not sure about these prices but definitely prefer Volvos any day!

If they want to promote Indian brands by buying buses from them, then they need to tell the manufacturers that they need to make stuff that is comparable and is as good as Volvos…there is no point in buying stuff that is noisy and asthetically not great just because it was made by an Indian manufacturer!
